Azerbaijan Student Youth Organizations’ Union condemns in the strongest terms the 27th and 28th October rocket attacks by Armenian armed forces to Barda city of Azerbaijan, which resulted in the death of 24 civilians, including 7 year-old child and wounding more than 70 people.

By firing cluster bombs to Barda city so that to increase civilian casualties, Armenia broke the ceasefire agreed upon initiative and mediation of the US President Donald Trump. It actually became a heinous tradition for Armenia to break the ceasefire by firing rockets to cities of Azerbaijan located far from the conflict zone.

Thus, on the 11th of October Armenia fired ballistic missiles to Ganja city of Azerbaijan, breaking the first ceasefire agreement reached on the mediation of Russia. As a result, 7 civilians died and 33, including children, were injured. On the 17th of October, just 2 minutes after the ceasefire agreement initiated by France came into effect Armenia fired SCUD missiles to Ganja city, killing this time 14 and wounding 55 civilians. There were children among victims of this heinous attack.  

While the world keeps silence over the war crimes committed by Armenia, this country continues the deliberate shelling of the residential areas of Azerbaijan. The lack of condemnation by the international community encourages Armenia to further war crimes.   

The deliberate targeting of residential areas far from the conflict zone also reveals the true nature of Armenia’s leadership. Armenia, disregarding international law continues its aggression against Azerbaijan and keeps killing Azerbaijani civilians blatantly violating international humanitarian law. By deliberately violating the ceasefire agreements Armenia shows to the world that this country is not interested in the negotiated settlement of the conflict. It is no revelation, as Armenia’s policy over the last 26 years of occupation of Azerbaijani territories has been aimed at derailing the negotiations process under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group.  

The Azerbaijan Student Youth Organizations’ Union strongly condemns the terroristic and barbarian actions of the Armenian armed forces and urges the international community to bring the perpetrators of attacks to the cities of Ganja and Barda to justice. Armenia should immediately and unconditionally withdraw its forces from all occupied territories, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, as required by the UN Security Council resolutions 822, 853, 874, 884, so that peace could finally be restored in our region!
